TO SORN is the first project in which Jonathan Boyd used jewellery as an art form to communicate a particular interest in contemplating contemporary society. From the walk a film was made capturing the change in culture from Glasgow to the countryside and the difference in skyline and in feel. From this film Jonathan has started a ceramic mural capturing parts of the walk as well as an original film and 12 pieces of jewellery.

The film was a collaboration with frequent collaborator Sorely Kleboe and Sound artist Charlie Knox.

Walking. A meditative act. An opportunity to explore a place, an environment and our relationship to it. A chance to contemplate our surroundings and how they impact on how we define ourselves.
It allows time to reflect on the unseen and unheard, focus on the importance and unexpected elegance of idle conversations and the tone, texture and colours of the changing landscape.
Two close friends and collaborators (Jonathan Mathew Boyd and Sorley Arthur Kleboe) undertook a 34 mile, one-day journey from the birthplace of Jonathan’s newborn daughter in Maryhill, Glasgow to the birthplace of Sorley Kleboe in Sorn, Ayrshire.
Everything they discussed, saw and heard was captured on multiple audio and visual recorders.
These recordings have been used to create this film, jewellery and a mural.
The walk captured the transitions from city to countryside, from past to recent memories, from optimism to pain and from rain to blue skies....
