'Fashion 88: Life in a Northern Town' looks at a promotional trip undertaken by a group of internationally profiled fashion designers (including Vivienne Westwood, Sonia Rykiel, Jasper Conran and others) to the woollen mills of the Scottish Borders at a time when the industry was in terminal decline. An invited contribution to the National Library of Scotland's major online project 'Back to the Future: 1979-1989', the essay uses archival research (Heriot-Watt University) and draws on recent interviews with key personalities. Published online by the National Library of Scotland, it is aimed at a general audience.
